Counselor's Corner
During Social-Emotional Learning time, the elementary students finished up Kelso's Problem-Solving Strategies unit a couple of weeks ago, so now we have moved on to Zones of Regulation. Zones of Regulation focuses on 4 different colored zones and the feelings associated with each one. If your K-8 student brings home a "Feelings Gauge", it is meant to be kind of an early warning system. Your student has been instructed to put it up in a visible space and point the arrow to how they are feeling at that moment. Here's what the colors may indicate:
Blue Zone: "I've got some low-energy feelings. I may be feeling; sad, sick, tired, bored, lonely. If you see me in the BLUE ZONE, I may need someone to check-in on me because I'm not feeling myself."
Green Zone: "My energy level is perfectly balanced. I may be feeling; happy, relaxed, calm, focused, loved. This is a comfortable zone and I feel self-regulated".
Yellow Zone: "My energy level is a bit hard to control". I may be feeling; excited, scared, frustrated, anxious, silly, uncomfortable, jealous. If someone could check-in on me to help me process some of my extra energy, I would appreciate it".
Red Zone: "My energy is ALL OVER THE PLACE and I am definitely NOT feeling my normal self! I may be feeling; ELATED, ANGRY, STRESSED-OUT, TERRIFIED, MEAN, OUT-OF-CONTROL. I may need some space and time to myself to bring myself down or the help of an adult to help me self-regulate to a more stable zone!"
